Storytelling at Haddington Library

Welcome to East Lothian Council’s Haddington Library.

We’re open 7 days a week and we always have lots going on.

There is a homework club every Wednesday 3.30-4.30pm. Lego club is on a Friday 12.30-2pm, please ask for dates and more information at the counter. There are two Bookbug sessions on a Wednesday morning, 10.30am and 11.15am. On alternate Wednesdays the NCT set up a baby sling library from 10-12pm where you can try out slings and rent them. On a Friday morning we have Handmade Haddington, a well attended group where you can bring along your craft and have a chat. The RVS have set up a visually impaired group who meet within the library on alternate Tuesdays, please ask for more details.

We also offer IT sessions, iPad sessions and beginner computer classes. There are also reading and writing groups you can attend or find out about local community groups and organisations here.

Within the library we offer free access to computers and wi-fi, as well as printing, photocopying and laminating services. Check out our charges for photocopying, hiring of equipment and overdues here.

We have all the latest DVDs for hire, we charge £1.50 per DVD and £4.50 per box set. Still a cheap night in! We do however provide free eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and newspapers which you can download on to your tablet. There are a lot more free services available on our website including eFilms and eTraining

We have an excellent online catalogue you can just browse, and where you can renew and request books. All you need is your library card number and pin number.

The library has a wide range of books to borrow, from the latest bestsellers, to books on gardening, sport, travel, books in large print and on CD and caters for all ages! We have special book promotions on a regular basis and some of these will tie in with the themes being explored in other parts of the John Gray Centre. All of the library service’s books, music and DVD stock is available to renew and request online here.

Check our events calendar to find out what’s on at libraries throughout East Lothian, or get the inside story on our blog.

Can you tell me if you have an inter-library loan service? Just for a technical book I need for one job.

If you send an email to the Haddington Library [email protected] and give them the detail, I’m sure they may be able to help.

      Hi Matthew,
      Thank you for your enquiry.
You will need two forms of ID. One to prove who you are (birth cert or passport or driving licence or travel pass). Another to show your address (council tax statement or bank statement or utility bill, etc.).
      Hope this information helps.
