Best Days of Your Life? Education in East Lothian

Best Days of Your Lives? Archive exhibitionThis Archives and Local History exhibition takes a look back at the education in East Lothian. From the early days of basic education to todays all encompassing curriculum we uncover stories of teachers, punishments and pastimes.

Take a look through the exhibition panels and see if they inspire any stories from your schooldays. Did you have a subject you hated, a teacher you loved or a particular friend you remember? Whatever your memories, the exhibition is a chance to look back and wonder if schooldays really were the Best Days of Your Life.

There is also a chance to look through some objects from the archives and museums that are in the display cases in the John Gray Centre museum.

You can also hear some clips from oral history interviews we conducted as part of the project or look back over school photographs and see if you can help us identify any of the people featured.

If you’d like to find out how to use school records in your family or local history research, check our research guide on the subject.
