Kate Henderson, ‘Summer shadows’

The work that I am exhibiting is based on my experiences of becoming a mother and losing my father after a long deteriorating illness.

My aim was to learn more about acid etching techniques on glass. I was interested in creating a range of painterly marks on a single sheet of glass, which used different resists from wax to bitumen. With the funding from the award, I produced a small series of maquettes in glass to develop into the commissioned side of my work; as samples for larger architectural possibilities in stained glass. I now have the opportunity to take a more painterly approach within my work and I have established good links with the glass studio I undertook the research with, to create larger commissioned projects with them.

Listen to Kate talk about her work, and the piece she is exhibiting.
