Come along and be our Friend!

Our Friends group supports the work of the John Gray Centre. This group offers a chance for people to take part in activities, help staff with events, and projects intitiated by the professional staff  of the museum and archives. There may also be opportunities for fundraising towards larger purchases.

If you have an interest in supporting the work of the John Gray Centre and promoting public participation in using East Lothian’s Heritage Collections, find out more about us by dropping in to the John Gray Centre to chat to the staff or email: [email protected]. You can also download our leaflet here, or pick up a copy when you visit.

The Friends have also developed a lively activities programme which includes outings and talks. They’re free to Friends, who pay a £10 membership fee to help fund programmes like this. Non-members can enjoy these activities for £5.

After a talk on Poor Law project

Currently we are looking for people who would be interested in getting involved with an oral history and transcription project which the archives are taking part in. Run by the European Ethnological Research Centre at Edinburgh University, the project aims to capture histories of everyday people and full training and support will be given. Take a look at the project website for a similar project in Dumfries and Galloway and if you’d be interested in getting involved then contact the archives team at [email protected]

Download a contact form here (pdf or Word), or ask at one of the desks in the JGC about joining.

If you have an interest in East Lothian’s history and want to do more, then the Friends are for you!
