- Object Name: frame
- Accession Number: 1243
- Description: rectangular polished sycamore wood photograph frame, oval glass, pictures in each corner on wood: Dunoon; Glenburn Hydropathic Establishment, Dunoon; Episcopalian Chapel, Dunoon; Rothsay Castle
This Mauchline ware picture or photograph frame has images from two Clyde resorts decorating the corners. It is a late Victorian souvenir which might be sold in both Dunoon or Rothesay. As an early popular souvenir, the presence of Mauchline ware is a good indication of an early holiday industry at that place.
This is a rectangular polished wood frame. On the front face is an oval picture window with glass. The back is a leatherette textile with a slit (for inserting a picture) and a brass hanging fixture. In the front corners are four black and white oval transfer prints, two of Dunoon and two of Rothesay.
