- Description: wood and wire scraper used in clayworking at Prestongrange; H-shape in wood with wire across one end and a twisted rope and rod at the opposing end that can be used to tension the wire.
This tool was used to remove excess clay from hand-moulded bricks during the moulding process.
This is a H-shaped wood frame used for supporting a wire scraper drawn across one end. A twisted rope and rod at the opposing end can be used to tension the wire.
The brick making process was mechanised during the nineteenth century. However, special bricks continue to be made by hand to the present day.
