- Description: This is a set of 7 rectangular twill fabric swatches. The swatches are held together by two shiny black brads at the top. Each piece is numbered; from the top to bottom they read: 94076, 94077, 94078, 94085, 94086, 94091, 94092. The top piece of fabric has an additional, handwritten label that reads '4184'. Two of the middle swatches are stapled together.
This woollen cloth was made at Haddington's West Mills. The Mills produced a wide variety of woollen cloth and were operated by a number of owners before finally closing in the later part of the 20th century.

Haddington was once a centre of Scotland's wool trade. A significant early industrial venture was launched at the New Mills Cloth Manufactory in 1681 (which lasted to 1711) to be succeeded by other factories in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
