Traces of the first people to settle East Lothian are rare, but they do exist, and left their mark on our landscape forever. Explore the Historic Environment Record to see just where one of Scotland’s earliest known houses was built, and find other remains from these early centuries.

Technology brought faster change during the Iron Age, and the people who lived here then left more evidence of their lifestyles and society, in the form of hill forts, tools and weapons.
