Guided tour at the museum for people with access needs

Disabled access


There are three Blue Badge parking spaces for disabled in the cobbled area beside the John Gray Centre (on Lodge Street), and more Blue Badge spaces nearby in the on-street parking on Market Street, just in front of the John Gray Centre.


There is an access ramp to the entrance for wheelchair users.


Inside there are public toilets, including toilets for wheelchair users.


There is a lift to the first floor (Museum and Archive/Local History Centre).

Inside the museum gallery there is a short flight of stairs with a wheelchair platform lift.

Hearing loop:

There is a hearing loop in the museum.

Audio guides:

There are free audio guides with visual description and navigation guidelines for blind and visually impaired visitors. Please note our Talking Museum Guide is currently out of service being refreshed with new content.  It will be available by April 2020.

Activities and resources:

We offer museum guided tours, object-handling sessions and creative workshops for groups with access needs. You can also borrow loan boxes for reminiscence, as well as audio and large print books in the library. Call 01620 820 695 for more information or to arrange a visit.
